Industrial Revolution in Europe brought a new trend: the use of metallurgy in construction. Because of this the engineer’s role has become increasingly important, in some cases rivaling that of the architect. Built in 1889, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, is probably the most famous example of this new utilization of the metal. Tower is wearing the name of the architect, designer and engineer who built it.
Eiffel Tower is the highest structure in Paris and was for 40 years, the world’s highest building. Metal work, whose structure is only made of iron, is fairly light and strength of wind at high speeds. One of the reasons to visit the Eiffel Tower is unique, is just the fact that the structure is opened and is in the wind. Opened structure of the tower allows visitors to see the tower – can stand on one side and watch the skeleton tower on the other side, or to another floor of the tower.
Eiffel Tower was originally built for the World Exhibition of 1889, as commemorating the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. During construction and even after its completion, many French have considered the structure being horrible and totally inestetic. With time, however, criticisms were effervescent and Eiffel Tower has become the foremost symbol of Paris and sightseeing and of the whole France.
Eiffel Tower is a tourist attraction that has received over the years more than 200 million tourists. There are people today who lumped the Eiffel Tower as a cliche, but few are those who can’t take their eyes off it at night, when every time the city if flooded in a light rain. Tanzania’s Northern Circuit is celebrated for some of the best wildlife safaris in Africa . Once visited, Tanzania will have you wanting to return again and again to this matchless destination. Tanzania boasts the unparalleled Serengeti, the stunning and unique Ngorongoro Crater and many other extensive parks and game rich reserves. This whole region has a natural abundance of wildlife, the icing on the cake being the last great annual migration left on our planet, when millions of animals thunder across the northern reaches of this vast country.
How to go about this safari adventure depends on your personal preferences. This vast area is best explored by a 4×4 and if your budget allows you, combine this with a flying safari in order to get to the more remote areas. Tanzania offers by way of accommodation on the safari a combination of stylish private camping concessions, luxurious mobile camping or elegant permanent tented camps.
If you want the remote, less traveled area of Tanzania, the exciting, off the beaten track safari locations, then the best option is to fly to the remote reaches where the roads of Tanzania simply do not exist. These parks boast fantastic camps – sometimes being the only camp or lodge in a million hectares.
Usually it is often obligatory to fly to a localized start point for this kind of game safari. To give a rough guide on price – the differences in quality, remoteness and luxury are directly related to the cost. For example, a private 4×4 Land Rover safari, staying in good quality lodges, will cost around $500 per person per night.
The camps are fantastic quality and fixed in one location, although some in the Serengeti are luxury semi-mobile tented camps. Private mobile tented safaris are luxury mobile camps organized exclusively for your itinerary and are likely to cost a lot more than the permanent camps.
No walking [with a few exceptions] is allowed in the northern parks and game viewing is by closed-sided vehicle. There are possibilities to walk in certain concession areas, such as around Klein’s Camp, outside the Serengeti National Park boundaries and in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Crater Highlands. Oliver’s Camp, in the wilderness area of the Tarangire, offers superb walking safaris with an option to camp out in the park overnight. Also the Western Kilimanjaro offers walking safaris with Maasai guides in the private concessions on the Kenyan border.
The annual migration of herds in Northern Tanzania and Kenya is one of the world’s most spectacular wildlife events. Often referred to as the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’, The Great Migration is a movement of over one million wildebeest and zebra throughout the Serengeti and Maasai Mara ecosystems.
Despite the confusion of the many maps and illustrations showing the path of the migrating herds, it must be said, as with anything in Nature, the actual pattern is unpredictable. The migration depends upon the rains and the rains are unpredictable. If the rain pattern changes, so will the migration. If the rains are late, so will be the migration.
Between June and July the Migration splits in two; one group goes West into the Western Corridor before crossing the Grumeti River, the other heading directly to the North of the Serengeti passing near Klein’s Camp. From August to October the Migration is usually in the Maasai Mara in Kenya, returning South across the Tanzanian border in November.

You’ve seen the Acropolis, you’ve hit the museums and you’re trying to figure out if it is time to head to the islands. Wait! You’re missing much of the modern charm of Athens.
There is a conundrum with many historically significant cities. Guidebooks tend to send you off to every site with any potential historical significance, but leave out any mention of the modern attractions of the city. In the case of Athens, slavishly following your guidebook is a very bad choice and you’ll be the worse for it. As with any city, there are two good ways to see the charms of modern day Athens. The first is to get out and just start walking. The second is to befriend some local residents and let them show you the city. Either way, you’ll do fine in Athens.
The charm of Athens is found in the hubbub of daily life on the streets. The city and residents exude energy and character. If you get off the tourist tracks, you’ll find little neighborhoods with outdoor cafes and no tourists. This is where the action is in true Athens. Just plop yourself down at a café and start people watching.
One particularly good spot is in the Plaka neighborhood. A nineteenth century quarter, Plaka has a mix of Turkish and Greek influences. From Plaka, you can head to the shopping bazaars found throughout the city. The bazaars in Athinas and Eolou are a bit touristy, but no excessively. With a mideastern feel, you can sit down and drink tea with local shop owners while they hock their wares.
